Komatipoort Border Gravel

Komatipoort sits at the convergence of the Crocodile and Komati rivers on the border of South Africa and Mozambique — a small Lowveld border town that serves as the gateway for travellers entering Mozambique on the N4. The surrounding Komati River flood plain is one of the most wildlife-rich landscapes in the region, with elephant, hippopotamus and crocodile regularly visible from the gravel roads along the river.

What to Expect

Gravel roads on entirely flat Lowveld flood plain terrain. The flat terrain makes this one of Mpumalanga’s more relaxed rides physically, but the wildlife interest is exceptional — elephant on the river banks, hippo in the water and the extraordinary Lowveld birdlife throughout. The subtropical vegetation is dense and the heat can be intense — ride early morning only in the warmer months.
