Sudwala Caves Gravel Loop

Sudwala Caves are the world’s oldest known cave system — 240 million years old and among the most geologically significant sites in South Africa. The caves sit on the Escarpment hillside above the Crocodile River gorge, surrounded by dramatic bushveld terrain. The 20km gravel loop uses the farm roads and bush tracks in the Escarpment terrain above and below the caves.

Gravel roads and bush tracks on moderately rolling Escarpment bushveld terrain with consistent views across the Crocodile River gorge and the Lowveld below. The geological character of the landscape — ancient dolomite rock formations, the dramatic Escarpment face — adds a unique dimension to the riding.
