Blyde River Canyon 10km Loop

The Blyde River Canyon is one of the world’s most spectacular natural features — a 26km gorge carved by the Blyde River through the Drakensberg Escarpment at depths exceeding 800m, ranked as the world’s third-deepest canyon. The canyon walls are clothed in subtropical vegetation and the panoramic views from the rim are among the finest in southern Africa. The 10km loop follows gravel tracks along the canyon rim with consistent viewpoints.

What to Expect

Gravel tracks and forest paths on moderately rolling canyon rim terrain. The canyon views are the defining feature — sheer drops of 800m to the canyon floor below, the river glinting far below and the dramatic canyon wall topography visible in every direction. Wildlife including samango monkeys, klipspringer and a remarkable diversity of raptors and forest birds inhabit the canyon.
