Wolkberg Wilderness Descent

The Wolkberg Wilderness Area is one of Limpopo’s wildest and most remote protected areas — a proclaimed wilderness zone on the high Escarpment above Tzaneen protecting pristine afromontane grassland, indigenous forest and the headwaters of the Letaba River system. The 20km descent from the high Wolkberg plateau to the valley below is one of Limpopo’s most dramatic MTB descent experiences — a full Escarpment drop through indigenous forest and technical mountain terrain.

What to Expect

Technical mountain tracks and singletrack on expert terrain with massive elevation loss over the descent. The wilderness area’s remote character means self-sufficiency is essential. A shuttle vehicle is required. The descent traverses multiple vegetation zones — open afromontane grassland giving way to indigenous forest as elevation drops — creating extraordinary botanical variety throughout.
