Woodlands Trails is a community MTB network in the residential eastern suburbs of Pretoria — 8km of flowing singletrack through light woodland and green corridors that provides the most conveniently accessible trail riding for residents of the Woodlands, Moreleta Park and Die Wilgers suburbs. The trails are not technically demanding and not scenically dramatic, but they are consistently pleasant, freely accessible and a perfectly reasonable option for a 30-minute morning spin before work or a relaxed family ride on a weekend afternoon.

The Trails

The 8km main loop follows compacted dirt singletrack through the light woodland character of the Woodlands area — flat sections through more open terrain alternating with the gently winding paths through denser tree cover that give the trail its woodland feel. The technical demand is minimal — a few mild undulations and some rooty sections under tree cover — making it appropriate for riders of all ages and confidence levels. The shorter 4km circuit is the most accessible option: genuinely flat and straightforward, rideable on any bike type including children’s bikes and hybrid/flat-bar road bikes.

Local Context

Woodlands Trails serves the same function for eastern Pretoria that Lonehill serves for northern Johannesburg — a free, informal community trail network embedded in the residential suburb fabric, providing access to natural terrain without a significant drive. Its value is entirely in its convenience and consistency as a daily-use local trail.
