Magaliesberg Short Loop
The Magaliesberg Short Loop is the time-efficient advanced option in the Magaliesberg — a 15km route that concentrates the most technically demanding and scenically rewarding elements of Magaliesberg mountain riding into a half-day commitment. Where Breedtsnek demands a full day, the short loop delivers the rocky Magaliesberg character and mountain views in approximately 3 hours for fit advanced riders.
The Route
The short loop climbs onto the Magaliesberg ridge from the village-side trailhead on rocky singletrack — the gradient is steep and the surface is loose granite and shale, demanding climbing technique and power from the first pedal stroke. The ridge section provides the same dramatic views as the longer routes — the Highveld plains on both sides of the mountain range, the characteristic rocky escarpment, and the open sky that makes the Magaliesberg one of Gauteng’s most rewarding high-terrain riding environments. The descent is correspondingly technical — an uncompromising rocky finish that completes the short loop’s technical challenge efficiently.
