Wolwespruit Pump Track
The Wolwespruit Pump Track is a purpose-built dirt pump track at the Wolwespruit Bike Park facility in Die Wilgers, Pretoria East — a sculpted roller and berm circuit designed for developing pump technique, improving bike handling reflexes and providing high-intensity cardiovascular fitness in a compact, repeatable format. Pump tracks are one of the most effective MTB skills development tools available: the ability to generate speed without pedalling purely through weight transfer and timing is a foundational skill that improves riding quality across all trail types.
The Pump Track
The Wolwespruit pump track features a connected series of rollers, berms, rhythm sections and tabletops in a compact circuit that can be lapped continuously at speed. The surface is hard-packed compacted dirt sculpted to the specific geometry required for efficient pumping — the track’s maintenance standard is important to its function, and Wolwespruit maintains it to a good standard. The circuit is rideable on any bike type — mountain bike, BMX, hardtail or full suspension all work well — and the difficulty scales with rider ability: beginners use the track at walking pace to learn the timing, advanced riders carry enough speed to complete the entire circuit without pedalling. Both use cases are simultaneously valid on the same track.
