Soetdoring Nature Reserve Loop

Soetdoring Nature Reserve sits in the semi-arid transition zone west of Bloemfontein where the Highveld grassland gives way to Karoo scrub. The 20km MTB loop winds through the reserve’s game-rich terrain on gravel tracks and dirt trails, with springbok, black wildebeest, blesbok and eland regularly encountered on and around the trail.

What to Expect

Gravel and dirt tracks through open semi-arid bushveld on moderately rolling terrain. The riding is intermediate in effort and the wildlife viewing is consistently excellent — the reserve’s game is well-habituated to visitors. The birdwatching is exceptional year-round with over 200 species recorded, including raptors, waterfowl and Karoo specialists.

Getting There

Take the N8 west from Bloemfontein toward Dealesville. Soetdoring Nature Reserve is signposted from the N8. GPS: -28.9812, 26.0234.
