Buffelspoort Valley Ride

Buffelspoort (Buffalo Pass) is one of the three notable dams on the classic Magaliesberg ‘3 Dams’ route — a popular tourism and cycling circuit linking Hartbeespoort, Buffelspoort and Olifantsnek dams through the mountain passes of the Magaliesberg. The Buffelspoort Dam sits in a narrow gorge through the quartzite Magaliesberg with dense bush and the characteristic rocky mountain terrain creating a sheltered, atmospheric valley setting. The 20km valley ride explores the pass road and gravel roads through this beautiful valley environment.

What to Expect

Gravel roads and mountain pass road terrain on moderately hilly valley terrain. The Buffelspoort gorge setting — quartzite Magaliesberg walls on both sides, the dam below — creates a distinctive riding environment. The R104 pass road carries tourist traffic on weekends — ride with visibility gear and awareness of vehicles. The valley floor roads alongside the dam are quieter.
