Christiana Farmland Trail
Christiana is a historical North West town on the Vaal River — the site of significant alluvial diamond discoveries in the 19th century that contributed to the diamond rush history of the interior. The surrounding Vaal River basin farmland is flat and open with the river providing irrigation for productive irrigated agriculture. The 25km Farmland Trail follows gravel farm roads through this productive, historically significant landscape.
What to Expect
Easy gravel roads on flat Vaal River basin terrain. The agricultural character of the Christiana area — irrigated crops, diamond-bearing alluvial gravel on the river banks — creates an interesting historical and natural landscape. The Vaal River provides waterbird viewing from the nearby banks.
Getting There
Christiana is on the N12 in southern North West Province. GPS: -27.9023, 25.1589.
