Iron Crown Ascent
The Iron Crown is the defining landmark of the Haenertsburg skyline — a dramatic rocky mountain peak visible from the entire Magoebaskloof area whose serrated ridgeline silhouette gives it its name. At over 1,800m it is one of the highest points in the Wolkberg range and the 20km ascent is one of Limpopo’s most demanding mountain rides.
What to Expect
Rocky mountain tracks and technical singletrack on expert mountainous terrain with significant elevation gain. The summit views — across the Tzaneen valley below, the Limpopo Lowveld to the east and the Magoebaskloof pass road winding below — are among the finest in Limpopo. Technical rocky sections on the upper mountain require full concentration and expert bike-handling. The descent reward is substantial.
Getting There
Iron Crown is above Haenertsburg on the R71 between Polokwane and Tzaneen. GPS: -23.9123, 29.9623.
