Lichtenburg 18km Ride
Lichtenburg is one of North West Province’s most historically interesting towns — the site of the great 1926 Lichtenburg diamond rush when alluvial diamonds were discovered in the local farmland, sparking a rush of 100,000 prospectors in a matter of weeks. Today it is a prosperous agricultural centre surrounded by sunflower and maize farmland. The 18km ride follows gravel roads and farm tracks through this productive farming landscape on moderately varied intermediate terrain.
What to Expect
Gravel farm roads and tracks on flat to gently rolling Highveld plains terrain. The agricultural landscape — sunflower fields, maize farms and the wide-open Highveld sky — creates a spacious, open riding environment. The town’s historical character and the diamond rush heritage of the surrounding district add context.
Getting There
Lichtenburg is on the R52 in central North West Province. GPS: -26.1423, 26.1623.
