Lusikisiki Forest Ride

Lusikisiki is deep in the Pondoland Wild Coast — a region of extraordinary biodiversity where coastal forests, grasslands and the Indian Ocean converge in a landscape of remarkable ecological richness. The 25km Forest Ride explores the indigenous forest and grassland terrain around the town on tracks and roads through this undervisited corner of the Eastern Cape.

What to Expect

Forest tracks and gravel roads on rolling to hilly coastal hinterland terrain. The indigenous forest sections — dense, humid and rich in birdlife — are the highlight. The forest opens onto grassland ridges with views across the Pondoland landscape toward the ocean. Cape parrots, Knysna turacos and a remarkable diversity of forest birds are present throughout.

Pondoland’s Ecology

The Pondoland Centre of Endemism is one of the most biodiverse regions in South Africa — with over 150 endemic plant species, it represents one of the most significant botanical areas in Africa. The landscape surrounding Lusikisiki is part of this unique ecological zone.
