OR Tambo 25km Rural Loop

The OR Tambo District — named for the legendary ANC leader born in this region — is the heart of Pondoland and one of South Africa’s most culturally significant rural districts. The 25km Rural Loop explores the gravel roads through the district’s rolling grassland hills and river valleys, passing Xhosa homesteads, community gardens and the authentic rural landscape that has been home to Mpondo and Xhosa communities for centuries.

What to Expect

Gravel roads and dirt tracks on rolling to moderately hilly coastal hinterland terrain. The cultural landscape is the defining feature — traditional rondavel homesteads, cattle, community life and the characteristic colours and textures of Pondoland’s rural environment. The riding is intermediate in effort and the rural immersion is genuine.
