Tarkastad Rocky Outcrop

Tarkastad is a small town in the central Eastern Cape where the midlands grassland gives way to the characteristic koppie terrain of the Karoo interior. The 22km Rocky Outcrop loop explores the rocky hills around the town on singletrack and gravel roads with the characteristic dolerite koppies of the central Eastern Cape providing technical interest throughout.

What to Expect

Rocky singletrack and gravel roads on hilly Karoo-edge terrain. The dolerite koppies that characterise this part of the Eastern Cape create natural rock features, technical rocky climbs and fast descents with good views across the surrounding semi-arid landscape. Mountain reedbuck and grey rhebok are occasionally seen on the koppie slopes.
