Stutterheim Forest Loop
Stutterheim is surrounded by one of the most extensive plantation and indigenous forest areas in the Eastern Cape — the Amatola Mountain foothills receive high rainfall and support a remarkable mix of commercial timber plantations and remnant indigenous forest. The 28km Forest Loop explores this forest landscape on singletrack and gravel tracks with indigenous forest encounters throughout.
What to Expect
Forest singletrack and gravel tracks on moderately hilly terrain through plantation and indigenous forest. The indigenous forest patches — dense, mossy and atmospheric — are the highlights of the route. The plantation sections provide faster, more open riding between the forest encounters. Mountain views appear where the forest clears on the ridge sections.
Getting There
Stutterheim is on the R352 in the Amatola foothills. GPS: -32.5612, 27.4289.
