The Tygerberg Mountain Bike Club trail network is one of the most extraordinary MTB destinations in South Africa — 182km of purpose-built trails across 15 private farms in the Durbanville Hills, managed by what is widely claimed to be the largest MTB club in the world, with over 6,000 members. The network sits within 25 minutes of the Cape Town CBD, making it the primary training ground for Cape Town’s enormous mountain biking community.

The Trail Hubs

Bloemendal Trail Park is the main hub and heartbeat of the network — home to Giant Bikes, the BioSport retail store, the Bloemendal Trail Park Café and Bar (beer on tap, coffee, food until 9pm), and 27.5km of trails ranging from a beginner pump track to the red-grade Bloemendaaler (rated 4.9/5 on Trailforks). The lower green section is purpose-built for beginners and children. The upper leads into Ntida and the Hillcrest red single track with views over Table Bay and Robben Island.

Contermanskloof offers 36km of trails with 720m of elevation, home to The Dairy Shed and Stark Brews restaurants. Hoogekraal provides a challenging 8.5km trail with 226m of climbing through renosterveld. Meerendal connects seamlessly into the wine estate experience with Bossa and La Romantica restaurants. All hubs are connected by members-only corridors, allowing annual members to ride the entire 182km network continuously.

The Cape Epic Prologue has been hosted on these trails multiple times — an indication of the quality of terrain the Tygerberg network offers.
