Simonsberg MTB Trails

The Simonsberg MTB trail network winds through some of the most scenically diverse terrain in the Cape Winelands — from flowing vineyard singletrack on the lower slopes to challenging technical descents from the upper mountain, all anchored by the iconic Simonsberg peak that dominates the skyline between Stellenbosch and Paarl. The trail hub is Dirtopia Trail Centre at Muratie Wine Farm, offering bike hire, e-bike hire, shuttle services and breakfast before your ride.

What to Expect

The Dwarsrivier Valley Trail (20km) is an excellent moderate route starting at the Old Bethlehem Gate in Kylemore — a circular route through orchards and indigenous vegetation with great valley views. The Banhoek Game Trail runs from Boschendal through orchards along a stream, offering a relatively easy but scenically rich experience. The Botmaskop Trail from Muratie involves more serious ascending. For DH addicts, the upper mountain provides 600m of climbing before choosing a black or red descent line — on some days a shuttle takes you to the top. The trails were partly designed by pro rider Andrew Neethling and have hosted the Absa Cape Epic multiple times.
