Perched on the Durbanville Hills northwest of Cape Town, Meerendal Wine Estate offers a relaxed and scenic mountain biking experience that pairs beautifully with the estate’s celebrated wines. Established in 1702, Meerendal is one of the Cape’s oldest wine farms — and its trail network through old vineyards and fynbos-covered hills provides views across the Cape Flats toward Table Mountain that make every climb worthwhile.

What to Expect

The trails wind through the estate’s working vineyards, along fynbos slopes and around the historic Cape Dutch buildings that have defined the Meerendal landscape for three centuries. The terrain is gently rolling rather than mountainous — ideal for beginners, social group rides and after-work evening rides accessible from the northern suburbs without long driving time. Durbanville Hills’ slightly elevated position means it catches a cooling breeze that makes summer morning rides genuinely pleasant.

Post-Ride

Meerendal is renowned for its Pinotage, Shiraz and Chenin Blanc. The estate’s wine tasting room is open daily, and the Cattle Baron restaurant on-site provides full meals. One of the Western Cape’s most complete post-ride venues.

Getting There

Take the N1 north from Cape Town, exit at Vissershok/Durbanville. Follow Vissershok Road to the clearly signposted Meerendal Estate entrance. GPS: -33.7943, 18.6034. Tel: +27 21 975 1655.
