Rhebokskloof Wine Estate occupies a sheltered valley on the northern slopes of the iconic Paarl Mountain, where 500-million-year-old granite boulders define the landscape. The estate dates back to 1692 — when Governor Simon van der Stel awarded the original land grant — and today combines internationally-awarded Shiraz and Chardonnay wines with some of the most scenic MTB terrain in the Paarl Winelands.

The Trails

Rhebokskloof’s trail network was custom-designed by Paarl Adventure Trails to highlight the very best of the Paarl mountainside. The 5km Chardonnay Trail is a gentle introduction through the vineyards — perfect for beginners and families. The 20km Flatrock Trail moves through fynbos and vineyard terrain with increasingly technical sections. The signature Shiraz Trail (25km) extends into the adjacent Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve and culminates in the estate’s most memorable feature: 70 individually landscaped terraces on the eastern slope, each one a switchback linking into the next on a sustained, addictive descent. By the time you reach the bottom, you will understand why Rhebokskloof is on every Western Cape rider’s must-visit list.

The full combined network connects to the wider Paarl Trails system, allowing annual permit holders to extend rides into Laborie, Spice Route, Fairview and beyond for a 450km regional network.

Post-Ride

The Rhebokskloof Restaurant serves exceptional food drawing on the Cape Dutch and French culinary traditions — a fitting reward after the Shiraz descent. Wine tasting in the original Cape Dutch building beside the restaurant completes a perfect day.

Getting There

Rhebokskloof is on Windmeul Road in Paarl, north of the town centre. GPS: -33.7203, 18.9745. Tel: +27 21 869 8386. From Cape Town, take N1 north to Paarl, then follow signs to Rhebokskloof.
