Hidden in the southern suburbs of Cape Town on the slopes of Constantiaberg Mountain inside Table Mountain National Park, the Tokai Mountain Bike Trails offer a remarkable range of experiences — from flowing green singletrack to heart-in-mouth black diamond downhill lines — with sweeping views across the Cape Peninsula from both sides.

What to Expect

The mountain is divided into five levels (1–5) by traversing jeep tracks, with the upper levels offering progressively technical terrain. From the parking area, ride up Tokai Road to Tokai Manor House, turn left onto the gravel access road and up to the Main Jeep Track that leads into the network.

The famous Snake Trails — Cobra, Mamba, Boomslang and Snake Eyes — are the crown jewel of Tokai, featuring berms, rock gardens, drops and jump lines with B-line alternatives throughout. The Mast Climb is legendary: 10.7km of climbing at an average 7.7% gradient (max 16%) with 836m of elevation gain, rewarded by panoramic views from False Bay to the Atlantic. The Donkey Trail is a more recent addition — a fast flowing black-grade descent through fynbos reaching Level 5 jeep track.

Important: TokaiMTB is a non-profit organisation that builds and maintains all trails using member donations and corporate sponsorship only. None of the SANParks permit fees return to the trails. Please support them with a R400 annual membership.

Getting There

Drive to the Tokai Braai Site and Parking Area on Tokai Road in Cape Town Southern Suburbs. From the parking area exit right onto Tokai Road, ride to the T-junction at Tokai Manor House, turn left onto the gravel access road and continue to the Main Jeep Track. GPS: -34.0556, 18.4220.
