The Ou Wapad to Silvermine route is a classic Cape Peninsula mountain traverse — a 22km journey across the exposed Constantiaberg plateau inside Table Mountain National Park, moving between the Atlantic-facing slopes near Noordhoek and the Silvermine Reservoir on the False Bay side. It is best ridden as a one-way shuttle with a vehicle at each end, though strong riders tackle it as an out-and-back.

What to Expect

The riding is predominantly on open jeep track and gravel roads across an exposed high-altitude plateau of pristine fynbos. The views throughout are extraordinary — on clear days you can see both the Atlantic Ocean and False Bay simultaneously from the highest points, plus the Twelve Apostles, the Hottentots Holland Mountains and the distant Overberg coastline. The Silvermine Reservoir is a beautiful midpoint or end destination, nestled in a peaceful mountain bowl.

This route connects seamlessly into the Tokai MTB network at the Silvermine end, allowing riders to continue downhill through Tokai’s famous singletrack as part of a full mountain-to-sea traverse. Combined with Tokai, this is one of the finest full-day MTB experiences available in Cape Town.

Getting There

Start from the Ou Wapad Gate on Ou Kaapse Weg (R63) or from Silvermine Gate 2. GPS for Ou Kaapse Weg start: -34.0780, 18.3980. TMNP permit required at Silvermine Gate.
