Dornier Wines MTB Trail

Dornier Wine Estate sits on the scenic border between Somerset West and Stellenbosch, at the base of the Helderberg mountains. The estate’s MTB offering is compact but high-quality — a single well-marked 10km circular loop with 275m of ascent that packs flowing singletrack, forest jeep track sections, bermed river meanders and vineyard views into a 30-45 minute ride that leaves you wanting more.

What to Expect

The route starts at the estate entrance, mostly on singletrack with some jeep track through shaded forest sections. The terrain is rated intermediate to advanced — not suitable for complete beginners due to technical sections. The route connects to the neighbouring Stellenzicht Wine Estate trails and beyond, meaning experienced riders can extend the day significantly by continuing onto the broader Winelands Cycling Club network.

Important: Day permits for Dornier must be pre-purchased — none are available at the cellar door on arrival. Purchase via the Winelands Cycling Club website or partner outlets in advance. The Wine Lands Regional Permit is also accepted.

Post-Ride

The Dornier Restaurant is one of the Cape’s hidden dining gems, offering exceptional cuisine sourced largely from the estate’s own garden — a worthy post-ride reward. Book ahead.
