Silvermine Nature Reserve MTB Trails
The Silvermine section of Table Mountain National Park sits on the exposed Constantiaberg plateau, straddling the mountain between the False Bay and Atlantic Ocean sides of the Cape Peninsula. For mountain bikers and gravel riders, Silvermine offers a breathtaking high-altitude experience — rugged jeep tracks, open fynbos moorland, and panoramic views across both oceans that make it one of the most visually spectacular places to ride anywhere in South Africa.
What to Expect
Silvermine is predominantly jeep track and open gravel roads across the plateau, making it the preferred venue for gravel riders and XC enthusiasts who value big mountain views over tight singletrack. Access is from three main entry points — Ou Kaapse Weg (Gate 2), Constantia Nek, and the Silvermine Gate on the False Bay side above Muizenberg.
A popular and rewarding route links Silvermine with Tokai via a high mountain traverse — combining the best of both areas in a single outing. The Silvermine Reservoir is a scenic midpoint worth stopping at. On clear days the views from the plateau span from Hout Bay and the Twelve Apostles across to the Hottentots Holland Mountains and the Overberg coast.
Getting There
Main access via Silvermine Gate 2 on Ou Kaapse Weg (the mountain pass between Noordhoek and Muizenberg). SANParks gate hours vary seasonally — check before riding. GPS: -34.0732, 18.4018.
