Umgeni Valley Singletrack

Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve protects the steep-sided gorge below Howick Falls — a dramatic natural environment where the Umgeni River drops into a deeply cut valley lined with indigenous bush and giant fig trees. The 18km singletrack follows the valley terrain through this protected gorge environment with the roar of the falls as a constant distant presence.

What to Expect

Singletrack and valley tracks on moderately technical terrain through indigenous bush in the gorge environment. The steep valley sides create enclosed, forested riding conditions with characteristic KZN riparian vegetation. Wildlife including samango monkeys, various raptors and the reserve’s resident bushbuck and common reedbuck are regularly encountered. The bird diversity along the river is exceptional.
