Swartklip Gravel Loop
The Swartklip area is in the heart of the Waterberg Biosphere — the world’s only savanna biosphere reserve, encompassing the entire Waterberg mountain system and its surrounding bushveld. The 30km gravel loop explores the biosphere’s working farm and game reserve landscape on gravel roads with the red sandstone Waterberg ridges as a constant backdrop.
What to Expect
Gravel roads on moderately rolling Waterberg Bushveld terrain. The characteristic red sandstone geology of the Waterberg creates a distinctive landscape — reddish rocky outcrops, red soils and the mixed mopane and broadleaf bushveld that makes the Waterberg one of South Africa’s most visually distinctive regions. Wildlife including kudu, giraffe and the Waterberg’s exceptional bird diversity are present throughout.
