Lion and Safari Blue Trail

Lion and Safari Park on the R512 Pelindaba Road near Hartbeespoort opened early morning MTB trails in 2025, giving riders access to three routes through this well-established game reserve. The park sits within the UNESCO Magaliesberg Biosphere and borders the Crocodile River — a game reserve with numerous antelope species, the scenic rocky Pelindaba hills and the mixed Bushveld typical of the Magaliesberg’s northern foothills.

The Blue Trail

The 8km Blue Trail is the most accessible option — approximately 50% gravel road, 30% jeep track and 20% singletrack for a leisurely mixed-surface ride through the reserve. As the park’s website notes: ‘most of this trail provides a leisurely ride.’ The park warning about Pelindaba rock being sharp is relevant on the singletrack sections — ‘precaution should be taken.’ Numerous antelope species are visible throughout, making this one of the most rewarding short wildlife MTB experiences in the Gauteng–North West region.
