Schweizer-Reneke Savanna

Schweizer-Reneke is a small town in the southern North West Province on the edge of the Kalahari transitional zone — the landscape transitions here from the moist Highveld grassland to the drier thornveld savanna of the Kalahari fringe. The 25km ride follows gravel roads through this transitional semi-arid landscape on easy flat terrain with the characteristic dry thornveld vegetation and the big skies of the interior plateau.

What to Expect

Easy gravel roads on flat semi-arid savanna terrain. The Kalahari-transitional vegetation — mixed thornveld, red soils beginning to show — creates a drier, more arid riding character than the Highveld grassland further east. Springbok and steenbok are visible on the farms. Carry adequate water on this remote route.
