Marico River Ride

Groot Marico is one of South Africa’s most culturally beloved small towns — the setting for Herman Charles Bosman’s famous Oom Schalk Lourens short stories that captured the character of the North West bushveld farming community in the early 20th century. The Marico River is one of South Africa’s clearest and cleanest rivers, flowing through the distinctive Marico Bushveld. The 25km River Ride follows gravel roads along the Marico valley on intermediate terrain with the clear river as a constant companion.

What to Expect

Gravel roads and river valley tracks on moderately rolling Marico Bushveld terrain. The clear Marico River, the characteristic kameeldoring and witgat trees of the Marico valley and the authentic farming bosveld character create a riding environment unlike anywhere else in the province. Post-ride options include the Marico Bushveld Spa or the Marico Bosveld Craft Brewery.
