Skeerpoort Valley 30km

The 30km advanced Van Gaalen loop accesses the full character of the Skeerpoort Valley trail network — venturing into the more demanding terrain beyond the river valley flat sections. The Pofadder route (a steep rocky descent named for the venomous puff adder) and the Greek Church climb (a punishing ascent to a Greek Orthodox church visible from the valley) are the circuit’s signature challenges, accessible on the 30km extended option.

What to Expect

Purpose-built singletrack and jeep tracks on advanced terrain with rocky climbs and fast, technical descents. The Getaway Magazine review describes the network as trails that ‘demand your complete attention’ — the Pofadder descent features loose surfaces, baby-head rocks and big drops that are not appropriate for riders without solid technical skills. The 30km loop also includes significant flat river valley singletrack through reeds, indigenous bush and across the Skeerpoort River for route variety.

Practical Notes
