Van Gaalen 25km Loop

The Van Gaalen 25km loop is the most popular option for intermediate visitors to the Skeerpoort Valley trail network — covering the core river valley singletrack and some of the connecting jeep tracks across multiple farms without the full physical demand of the 40km loop. The trail head at Van Gaalen Cheese Farm provides an exceptional start and finish point — the artisan Dutch cheese operation with its deli and restaurant is one of the most pleasant trail head venues in South Africa.

What to Expect

Purpose-built singletrack and jeep tracks on intermediate terrain — a mix of flat river valley singletrack through reeds and bush, some technical rocky sections and open veld with multiple Skeerpoort River crossings. The 25km distance is manageable in 2–3 hours for intermediate riders. All routes well-marked and signposted throughout the network.
