Queenstown Karoo Plains
Queenstown (Komani) sits on the boundary between the Eastern Cape midlands and the Great Karoo — a town surrounded by both the productive midlands grassland to the north and the semi-arid Karoo plains to the south. The 35km Karoo Plains loop explores the Karoo-edge terrain south of town on gravel roads through the sparse and atmospheric landscape of the Great Karoo’s eastern reach.
What to Expect
Gravel roads on flat to very gently rolling Karoo-edge terrain. Distant koppies, sparse scrub vegetation and the vast open sky define the riding environment — classic Karoo riding conditions with minimal technical demands but real physical challenge from exposure and heat in summer. Wind can be a significant factor on the open plains.
Getting There
Queenstown is on the N9 in the central Eastern Cape. GPS: -31.8923, 26.8734.
