Stilfontein Mine Loop
Stilfontein is a small gold-mining town immediately east of Klerksdorp — a satellite community in the southern North West Province’s mining belt with the characteristic landscape of mine shaft headgear, yellow mine dumps and reclaimed grassland terrain that defines the Witwatersrand Far West Rand. The 18km loop follows gravel roads through this distinctive mining landscape on easy, flat terrain.
What to Expect
Easy gravel roads on flat mining-fringe terrain. The rehabilitated mine dump grassland and the agricultural fringe provide a surprisingly accessible riding environment. Grassland birds are abundant on the reclaimed mine land — the reclaimed mine dumps support a diverse grassland bird community including various larks and cisticolas.
